actually with this autodesk maya modeling character, specially for posing the character ... you can use only with some of deformer ... but uncomfort to do in complex need.

like the step before animation usually we will use skeleton rig and paint weighting ... so to amke more flexible we gonna use those tool as well but in the simple way ...

as autodesk maya modeling toolkit ... after creating skeleton rig and paint weighting ... you gonna very very easy to pose in any different pose ... actually after you setup the normal pose (T pose), you can save couple time and add it to new scene ... with that way you can hv many character (which is you can sculpt to be different character) in one scene.



felt to complex but no option ... actually if we wanna to posing our character we still can use deformer ... but a bit uncomforted ... silly somehow ... but yes we can ...

but in this case just use a comfy posing with a bit  advance tool ... Skeleton Rig ... you can begin from side view for torso part, continue with shoulder to hand ... then hip to knee and feet ...

to make simple way you can use as low as polygon model to bind skeleton to model, but somehow might not enough wire in case of paint weighting you may use more SubDiv to it ... usually a low poly model will deform unexpected weird ... just somehow, cause not enough poly to paint weighting
